Most ophthalmic surgical procedures are performed on an outpatient basis and under local anesthesia. Most procedures last between 20 and 60 minutes. Larger operations on the cornea and retina require an inpatient stay of 2-3 nights at the inpatient department of the University Clinic for Ophthalmology and are sometimes performed under general anesthesia.
You will receive detailed instructions for the preparations before an operation from the planning office on site or by post. Post-operative follow-up care will be determined and organised at the latest when leaving the clinic.
